Rae Douglass Gallery Presents: Controlled Chaos
Shadowgrams Weavings and Sculpture by Rae Douglass
Last year, Rae Doulgass was commissioned to create a public sculpture for the Outdoor Learning Center, a park created to teach sustainability in New Mexico. Rae Created "Energy Dance", a sculpture made out of 102 segments of recycled oil well pipe that evokes the natural flow of energy through its design. The fabrication of the sculpture is sustainable because Rae decided early on to make it out of only recycled materials that could be sourced within a 5 mile radius of the Outdoor learning Center. Dynamic flowing patterns are created by the Moire' patterns of the multiple stationary pipes sliding by each other as the viewer moves around the sculpture. A 1/3 sized mockup of the sculpture will be on view in the main gallery. A series of shadowgrams and woven paper panels influenced by Rae's explorations into sustainability will be on sale.
